Acute appendicitis means acute inflammation of the appendix.This is when your appendix get infected by the bacteria.Appendix is considered by most to be a vestigial organs.Vermiform appendix is only present in humans,anthropoid apes and wombat.
Usually patient will presents with symptom of pain in the right lower abdomen.The pain may starts around umbilicus(navel) first,then within hours or days,it shifted to right lower abdomen.(See in the picture-lower right).So,that is the typical history about half of patients proven to have acute appendicitis.However,pain can also just localised at the right lower abdomen or around umbilicus.You may have fever,nausea,vomiting and loss of appetite.Some patients also complains of constipation.
Some of the risk factors for acute appendicitis
1-Age-common in young
2-Diet-commoner in diet low in dietary fibre and high consumption of refined carbohydrates
3-Social status/race-common in more affluence and developed regions of the world;like Europe,Asia and Australia
4-Obstruction to appendiceal lumen,may be due to faecolith,stricture,foreign body,round worm,colon cancer,etc.
Nobody really care about appendix unless when there is an infection or other problem arise from it.Some degree of infections can be treated by giving antibiotic but in severe cases,you may need to removeyourappendix,so it will not give complications to your body.
Don't worry if you have your appendix removed,losing it will not impaired your life.
